Empowering Women Through Education
Girls in Tanzania are highly vulnerable to leaving school before completion. The lack of early education leaves Tanzanian women wanting for basic skills and struggling to provide opportunities for their own children.
Education plays a vital role in women's ability to create the lives they want, for themselves and their families. Education opens doors to job opportunities, increased income, higher education, and improved living conditions. Most importantly education gives women choices.

Giving Women Choices
What's Our Story?
We are a non-profit organization that provides free education to women through our school based in Moshi, Tanzania. We are registered with the governments of both Canada and Tanzania.
Our beginnings...
After volunteering and travelling in several countries in Africa our Executive Director was struck by the incredible imbalance that existed between the opportunities that were available to women in Canada, and those living in African countries.
In 2007, she volunteered with a charity that helped women in Tanzania. She fell in love with the country and its people, and grew to appreciate the needs of women there. She felt passionately about returning to Tanzania to provide women with more access to education, so they could be empowered to build the life they want to create for themselves and their families. Give a Heart to Africa was founded in April 2009.
Our ongoing story….
Give a Heart To Africa continues to empower women through education. More then 950 women have graduated with skills in business, English, and vocations (hair braiding, soap making, batik, jewelry, candle making, sewing and knitting). Women have gone on to open their own businesses, attend post secondary education, have the skills and confidence to help their children with homework, and find gainful employment. Want to know more? Volunteer Testimonials
I volunteered at Give a Heart to Africa as an English Language teacher. The students were all women above the age of 18 and were highly motivated to learn English and vocational skills for their future lives. It was an amazing and very rewarding experience.
Give a Heart to Africa GHTA is a very well administrated empowerment project for women. The women apply each year to be part of the project. There are three areas of study - English, Business Management and Vocational skills. The project is located in Moshi at the foot Kilimanjaro in a beautiful part of Tanzania. The home base offers a home for volunteers with a modern kitchen as well as three well supplied classrooms adjacent. It is a very rewarding volunteer experience because the students are welcoming, motivated and hard working. The coordinators are experienced and skilled and will go the extra mile for GHTA volunteers. It's really excellent volunteer placement in a beautiful part of Africa..
